Dear Brother Dr. Ahsan,
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmat-ul
Allah.
Thank you for taking the time
to reply to my letter, your letter of September 17 was inspiring and thought-provoking.
It is my pleasure to reply to your questions about my study. I'll pursue my
Ph.D. Thesis in Medina at the Institute in Sha-a-Allah. With this letter I'll
enclose a copy of my biodata and a summary of my M.A. Thesis.
Presently I am doing
extensive research about orientalism in North Africa, to choose a topic for my Ph.D. This topic may be something like this. The
role of French Orientalism (or Islamists) on North African Perception of the
Western civilization, with special reference to Algeria. Under this title I
will
study the following topics:
. First contacts between North
African countries (Tunis, Algeria, and Morocco with the Western civilization in
the modern times. -
Second: The French efforts to
impose the Western Civilization and modernism on these countries in the areas
of: a-Faith b-Lega; practices and political thoughts c- Languages d-Social
Structure.
In the meantime, I am
preparing my proposal to present it to the department. Would you kindly advise
me on references or a person with authority on this subject whom I may contact
for further advice.
Though our newsletter will be
in Arabic we welcome your participation in English. My own participation to the
first issue was a translation of a book review written by Mariam Jamila, of a
book titled The Immortal Ataturk published in your (Book Review).
Special regards from Abdul
Asiz al Mahwaity and from Prof. Mohammad Osman Saleh and Dr. Ruhailly and all
colleagues who know you here in Madina.
Best personal regards.
