        كنت أود أن أقدم ترجمة الباحث المتخصص في الإسلام جون اسبوزيتو بدون تقديم، ولكن لما رأيت الصفحات الطويلة لنشاطات وإنجازات اسبوزيتو وأمثاله من الباحثين الغربيين تساءلت وأريدكم أن تتساءلوا معي هل هؤلاء مخلوقون من طينة أخرى غير التي خُلِق منها الأستاذ الجامعي في العالم العربي والإسلامي؟ لماذا يستطيعون أن ينجزوا كل تلك الأعمال ونحن لا نستطيع أن نقوم بعشر معشارها؟ هل نحاسب أنفسنا على أوقاتنا؟ هل نتذكر حديث المصطفى (لا تزول قدما عبد يوم القيامة حتى يُسأل عن أربع..ومنها عن وشبابه فيم أفناه وعن عمره فيم أبلاه..) فنحن محاسبون عن الوقت.
        هل السبب تربيتنا التي لا تشجع روح الإبداع والابتكار، بل ربما تصل إلى درجة كبته؟؟؟؟ أم أن ظروفنا الاجتماعية والتعليمية والجامعية والاقتصادية هي التي لا تتيح لنا أن ننجز شيئاً؟ كم من وقت الأستاذ الجامعي يضيع سدى في القيام بأعمال تافهة !!!!
        أليس حضور المؤتمرات والندوات للأستاذ الجامعي العربي المسلم أصعب من صعود الهملايا؟ بل إن الهملايا أصبح بالإمكان الوصول إليها وتجاوزها..إن حضور المؤتمرات والندوات إنما هو جزء من الحياة الجامعية لما توفره من وسائل لكسب مزيد من المعرفة والعلم بالإضافة إلى الاختلاط بالباحثين من أنحاء العالم والإفادة من خبراتهم وعلمهم.
        هل يمكن أن يكون الحل لهذه المعضلة بأن نشجع الإبداع والابتكار في جميع المراحل ولا نكتفي باستهلاك ما هو جاهز.وهل يمكن أن يكون بتوفير الإمكانات اللازمة للبحث العلمي من حيث المادة العلمية ووسائل الوصول إليها وكذلك وسائل النشر..؟وهل نشجع المبدعين والمبتكرين بمكافأتهم لنحفزهم لمزيد من الإبداع؟
تعليمه:
حصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة تمبل بمدينة فيلادلفيا  عام 1974م وكان تخصصه الأساسي في الدراسات الإسلامية بينما كان التخصص الفرعي أديان مقارنة، وكان قبلها قد درس اللغة العربية في مركز دراسات الشرق الأوسط بمدينة شملان بلبنان عام 1971 بعد أن درس اللغة العربية أيضا في جامعة بنسلفانيا عام 1969.
        والبروفيسور اسبوزيتو حصل على درجة الماجستير في اللاهوت من جامعة القديس جون عام 1966 وحصل قبلها عام 1963على درجة البكالوريوس من كلية سينت أنتوني بجامعة أكسفورد ببريطانيا في الفلسفة.

الخبرة العملية

حصل عام 2000م على رتبة الأستاذية وعمل في الفترة من عام 1993حتى الآن أستاذاً للدين والعلافات الدولية ، والمدير المؤسس لمركز التفاهم الإسلامي النصراني:التاريخ والشؤون الدولية، بمدرسة إدمند وولش للخدمة الخارجية بجامعة جورجتاون بمدينة واشنطن العاصمة الأمريكية.
       أستاذ كرسي لويولا لدراسات الشرق الأوسط ، وأستاذ الدراسات الإسلامية بكلية الصليب المقدس في الفترة من 1991-، وكان في الفترة من 1987حتى عام 1991 مديراً لمركز الدراسات الدولية بكلية الصليب المقدس. وعمل أستاذاً  مشاركاً  للدبلوماسية بمدرسة فلتشر للقانون والدبلوماسية بجامعة تفت Tufts University في الفترة من 1986حتى 1993م. عمل أستاذاً زائر للدراسات الأسيوية  عام 1986مبجامعة أوبرلين وعمل في الفترة من 1984-1995 أستاذ الدراسات الدينية بكلية الصليب المقدس وعمل في الفترة من 1975حتى 1984 أستاذ مشارك ورئيس قسم الأديان في قسم دراسات الأديان بكلية الصليب المقدس.
