2. Sixth Conference on International Relations: “Return of Geopolitics? Time for Active Diplomacy in the Greater Regions’’, Uludag University, Bursa-Turkey, 25-27 November 2014

3. Seventh Al-Jami’ah Forum: “Religious Authority, Piety and Activism: Ulama in Contemporary Muslim Societies”, Yogyakarta, 28-30 November 2014.

4. International Workshop: "The Future of the Study of Islam in Scandinavia: Between University Theology and Lived Religion", University of Oslo, 1-2 December 2014
Recently, several faculties of theology in Europe have established academic studies in Islamic theology, in particular universities in the Nederlands, Germany, and Great Britain. Similar programmes are in the process of being developed by the theological faculties at the universities of Oslo, Copenhagen and Uppsala. The present workshop seeks to discuss the content and structure of study programmes in Islamic theology in Scandinavia.

7. Conference of Arab Council for the Social Sciences on "Questioning Social Inequality and Difference in the Arab Region", Beirut, 13-15 March 2015

The conference is open to papers from all social science and allied disciplines. Researchers from the Arab region, whether currently resident in or outside the region, are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must hold at least a MA degree and be actively engaged in social science research. 10. Session on „Architectures of Oil: Global Perspectives”, Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers, Chicago, 21-25 April 2015

Calls for papers that critically address how architectures, landscapes, infrastructures, and geographies of oil have transformed space and society in producing countries. This session invites historically grounded inquires as well as contemporary approaches that examine intersections between the spatial, social, and political dimensions of oil, with an emphasis on regions of the global south.

11. Panel on “Slavery and the Slave Trade in Medieval Mediterranean Society” during 50th International Congress on Medieval Studies, Kalamazoo, MN, 14-17 May 2015

This session will focus on the role slavery as an economic force linking disparate religious and ethnic communities across religions and kingdoms, where the role of unpaid, forced labor provided a common economic and cultural relationship between Muslim and Christian communities controlling the Mediterranean Sea.

12. Second Conference of the School of Mamlūk Studies on "The Mamlūk Sultanate and Its Periphery", Liège, 25 June – 27June 2015

The conference will be divided into two parts and will be preceded by a three-day intensive course on manuscripts (22-24 June) for advanced graduate students.  The second part will focus on any aspect of the intellectual, political, social, economic, and artistic life of the Mamlūk period.
